Oh so quiet!
Damn this place has got quiet, its nearly as bad as firstage.
Well I have been banned from posting on all bb sections by Lady Clytaemnestra so the bb should be a bit quieter for a while. Well I thought it would be but these posts between the animists and sorcs seem to be keeping it full, makes some interesting reading. Finally good to see people doing some roleplay in the realm instead of running around swinging swords at anything that moves, been missing some good story lines for some time. What do you all think of it?

Re: Oh so quiet!
Well, things seem to be picking up in FA, finally
But yes, the storyline between the Sorcerers and Animists has been great to be a part of (As much as the time difference allows *Sulks* ). I understand Mailen will be posting her version of events as soon as she's able... *Pokes Mailen* No getting out of it now
The only thing is, it really needs *everyone* to pitch in - they can only keep one storyline going so long, so hopefully everyone will try to come up with something and give it a go Doesn't have to be as large-scale as the Eltrax/Cylanthia affair (attention seekers, I dunno ) and of course, there's always the option of getting involved in someone else's plot. To be honest, I've found it a darnsight more fun being involved in a *story*, rather than just logging in, recruiting men, bashing, questing, logging off. Oh, and maybe a few hours of picking in there... After all's said and done, FA is only what it's *players* make it. If we don't invest our creativity, then of course nothing's going to be interesting. (Plus, we get cookies like egg melees and immortal combat for making some effort ) The excitement lies in thinking, "What would happen if my character did X?", then bouncing off the other characters, who might have a slightly different reaction to what you expected. Such is the joy of the human mind - completely unpredictable But again, that requires everyone to remain IC, to think how their *character* would react. I, for one, am very aware that I've been guilty of just the opposite sometimes, but I also think this has given us a chance to turn things around for the better.
Ok, think that's the end of the rant... *Peers* Yup, all done.
Just a final thankee to the players behind Eltrax, Cylanthia, Mailen, Rissara and Telemachus for giving us such an awesome storyline (and anyone else I might have missed...). Here's to a more RP-orientated First Age.
Hopefully there's more in the pipeline....

Re: Oh so quiet!
Hi! Just recently become active again, I am now a semi-noob trying to relearn everything about how First Age functions. Oh - it would certainly be good to see some RP elements as they have always be scarce in the past when I was active.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Aye, is good to see some roleplay again in the realm instead of the normal bashing and smashing. I think the storyline has been pretty good so far and look forward to see what happens after the birth, you can never tell what those nasty sorcs have planned or how the animists might come together to protect their own, very interesting.
Keep up the good work all and I look forward to seeing what comes up.

Yes Illyism, Roleplay. You know the bit where people play the role they want within the realm which doesnt include using signs to write quotes from outside the realm of avalon. *Taps nose knowingly*.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Good thread, especially Moonflight's post.
Lately, as winter falls on the year 1091 in the land, there have been people logged in but idle. Very little activity, never mind storylines or RP. The other day I projected to four different people and found all of them idling.
So there is a player base, but everyone's logging on and accumulating lessons. But for new players I think this must look very strange. There is less and less to do.
How can we reinvigorate things, those of us who are there (and not idling for hours)?

Good question, although it has become the litany of Avalon..
Unfortunately our problems are still the same as ever, people like to play with people, and people we are short on. Really though, at the moment why would people live in our realm when theres another, apparently more populated and in tip top shape?
Yes, people idle. It may still be taboo, but its happening and its going to keep happening. When I first joined a couple years ago now, it made sense that idling was bad, it would get you killed and its sort of unfair, but now its a different kind of story. Most do it, you dont get killed because near everyone else is also idling, and if you did, you would most likely get gotten back at anyways and it would make little difference to their habits. It also seems unfair to expect people to be totally immersed when theyre on nowadays, theres really little to do and even if theyre idling, at least it gives the impression of not being the only person on.
So yes, there isnt much to do generally. The only reason I keep coming back is because I create my own things to do, like my shops. God knows someday Ill run out of other things to do and Ill actually have to try and start preparing myself for fighting!

Re: Oh so quiet!
I think at this stage you could name the people who idle all the time, its no secret. There is not much we can do about it unless we decide to kill everyone we think are idle but how can we be 100% sure?
Most of us from time to time suffer from connection issues and there is nothing worse than dropping to come back and find you have been killed for idling. It is not down to us to decide if someone should die because they idle, we are not gods. Only things we can do is to report these people to the gods, Guildmasters or Barons and let them deal with it.
If we are going to put a stop to idling then people who hold positions as Guildmaster and Baron need to lead by example and discourage people from doing it. Since returning in my opinion most of the people who idle are from or have come from Parrius. I talked to a person from Parrius who I noticed kept shaking his head every few seconds why he did it and he told me that he was told by a Guildmaster of Parrius that if he is idling he needs to move or he will drop. I was actually shocked that people were passing on tips on how to idle.
So unless the Barons and Guildmasters start setting a good example and punish those who do idle things will remain the same.

Killing isnt the way...
It would just make people angry if you kill them, and I dont really think it would even have the desired effect, because theyre not losing the lessons they gain. And even if you think that killing them was the right thing to do, I dont think everyone whos idling is going to agree, and we dont need more drama and bitching battles.
As far as Gods go... well, it appears they have as much involvement as the players, which you cannot blame, that it is just enough to still be "here".
All in all, they players are just reacting to the environment, which isnt going to change very soon, so I dont expect the idling too either.

Re: Oh so quiet!
I agree that killing people for idling should be frowned upon. If you are the sort that likes jumping and killing people then I guess its just an easy target and you are playing the role you have chosen. For those who follow a "good" path it would not be keeping with character play to slay people for being idle.
I also agree that each guild and city should set down some ground rules for all to follow regarding going idle. Its the only way we can manage the problem ourselves without having to rely on Gods. After all I do not think the Gods are there to baby sit us.

Re: Oh so quiet!
I prefer mockery to killing, personally. I'll portal to people and tickle them. Sometimes I think of dragging them to the Pool, maybe somewhere they don't accumulate lessons.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Tickle people to stop them idling? Will have to see if that works.
A big problem is people are trying everything in their power to stop being attacked or moved about. Like people logging on and keeping rebirth alkar while being idle. Or sitting in locations that are protected from magical projection including traversing. Now I thought such locations had no lesson gain so it confuses me why someone would idle in such a place.
I'll give tickling people a go but I think I might stick to disfavour, probation and then booting from guild/city as a better idea.

There are also appear to be some storylines developing to encouraging more combat between Mercinae and Parrius, as Thakria sleeps. Probably inevitable. We'll see what happens.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Sounds interesting. Merc's normally do their best to avoid conflict with Parrius for some strange reason. No matter how many times they are jumped they will normally forget about it fairly fast. No harm in a little bit of conflict since things are so quiet.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Genesis would want to get his act together and start implementing the new skill changes such as Specialisation.
I was talking to him before the christmas and he told me he would be bringing them in, in the new year. Now I know when he says in the New Year it could be anytime the next year but he really needs to do something. The place is dead.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Yeah, it's pretty dead. When I log on it is often just me in the land, unless you count Gahnasek's endless vigil in the BB.
The other day, Nazgul showed up. I issued, we fought, I died. Most excitement I had seen in days.
More recently, Erebus turned up. Again I issued. He said sorry, he was just on to check messages, and went away. Sigh.

Re: Oh so quiet!
Nope. It's really dead whenever I log on and been that way for weeks. I'm really the only active citizen of my city, with occasional visits from Fasthandy. Can't even get a city election going. Over the last week I'm not even logging on every day anymore because there is nothing to do. Run the same quests again? Pick some herbs? Feed more yarriol to my legions? Ho hum. Haven't had a challenge in almost weeks. Diomedes is on, but often silent. Gahnasek in the BB. You might see Nadine and Aladron doing quests.
Don't know if I'm going to keep subbing.

Re: Oh so quiet!
So same old, same old then.
I was hoping something might have happened by now like specialisations being rolled out or something. I guess Genesis is concentrating on Legends now and Firstage has gone on the back boiler.
I got fed up of poping on myself. Doing a few quests then sitting around got boring really fast and there is only so much you can do with legions since they are confined to barracks because the Gods have not sorted warfare.
Oh well. I guess Firstage is finally on its last legs. It has gone quiet a lot of times before but normally picks up but this is too much.
I might pop in once in a while if I'm stuck for something to do.

The "Play Now" button on the main page now redirects you to Legends ( unless you're viewing from some other part of the site, or click on "Connect to the finest online role playing game now!" instead ), so I highly doubt we'll be seeing anything new.

Re: Oh so quiet!
That's interesting, since First Age just resumed automatic billing, and has charged me for another month while apparently shifting website visitors to Legends.
I'm going to need some answers about that. If they have no intention of developing First Age any further, they should announce it before charging our cards automatically.
